A (little) bit about me
I'm an undergraduate studying Atmospheric Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Science at Cornell University . This semester, I'll technically be half-way through my Junior year of school, although I'm already set to graduate a semester early, in December of 2010. Between now and then, I plan on finishing off the core content necessary for my major, gaining teaching experience by TA'ing computer science courses, and developing more research skills by collaborating with my professor, Dr. Natalie Mahowald . I also plan on completing an Honors in Research thesis and publishing the subsequent paper before I graduate. However, my interests are far more varied than just my collegiate focus.
I'm an active violinist with the Cornell Symphony Orchestra , and I help manage and promote the Ithaca-based rock band, Weggalo Star . I also study the acoustic guitar, and am interested in the touch/finger-style of play epitomized by Michael Hedges and carried on by guitarists such as Antoine Dufour , Andy McKee , and Justin King . Although my central focus is on the violin, I try to perform my guitar work occasionally at various venues on Cornell's campus.
When I'm not studying music or climatology, I spend a great deal of time laboring away as a techno-phile. A good portion of my day is spent listening to music while watching my Google Reader feed update from various tech blogs, or spent perusing the front-page of digg , Engadget , or Ars Technica . I'm very interested in fusing my passion for atmospheric science with my passion for technology, which has led to the creation of several side-projects not related to school. For instance, I'm currently leading a small team of undergrads at Cornell to build an application on Google's Wave platform which will help meteorologists receive and analyze data from severe weather in real time.
Finally, I'm an active collegiate Quiz Bowl player. I started playing in the 4th grade at Wilder Elementary school in Louisville, Kentucky, and carried on through my high school years, even playing in the NAQT High School National Championship Tournament with duPont Manual High School . Currently, I serve as the President of Cornell's Quiz Bowl/Academic Competition Team , which competes in both the NAQT and the ACF , and I volunteer for NAQT whenver I can.
If you're interested in any of my aforementioned activities, please peruse the pertinent sections of this website, or contact me directly. I have also posted a public copy of my resume , which you are more than welcome to download.
